Kinetic Analysis did a Biomechanical analysis on the art of the drag flick, using five promising field hockey talents specializing in the move. Accurate measurement of the drag flick gives insight in athletes performance and can monitor the effectiveness of specific training. The researchers used the MVN Analyze using 17 on body trackers and 1 prop tracker (mounted on the stick).
Kinematic Pattern of the Drag-Flick: a Case Study.
The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of biomechanical selected parameters of penalty corner drag flick for accuracy. The best drag flicker of A.M.U. Aligarh, Hockey team has been selected for this study. His age, height, weight was 19yrs, 180.50cm and 65kg respectively. The subject used his own stick approved by the All India Association Committee, India.The kinematics of the drag flick was studied in ten elite hockey players who performed twenty shots each towards a target located 1.5 m high. A 150 Hz active marker motion analysis system was used, alongside two force plates to detect foot touchdown. Angular velocity and contribution to stick endpoint speed of upper body joints were analysed.Drag flicks are especially common during penalty corners, and are used as a variant to the 'straight shot' or hit. The main difference between the drag flick and the hit is that the drag flick is classified in the rules of field hockey, as a push, which are allowed to be raised higher from a penalty corner first shot.
The drag flick is the preferred method of scoring during a penalty corner in field hockey. Performing the drag flick requires a combination of strength, coordination and timing, which may increase.A survey showed that trainers and hockey players were positive about the tool on all of the three aspects. Video analysis showed that training the drag flick with the tool reduced the load on the lower back. There was no difference in ground reaction force. ' 2012 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
